Colony Flow Tips & Strategy

The rule is one line: clear the layer on top first. The part that takes practice is reading which color is on top, and batching the taps so the 5-slot queue never stalls.

The Three Habits That Matter Most

Read the stack before you tap

Look at the picture as an onion. Identify the outermost outline color first — that is the only color the ants can reach yet. Tapping a buried color does nothing until its cover is gone.

Batch one color at a time

When a color is exposed, tap all of its tiles before switching. The ants carry a full batch faster than a scattered one, and the queue never mixes.

Wait for the queue to drain

After a batch, watch the ants walk it out. New taps land in the queue, not on the picture. Patience here is faster than rapid double-tapping.

The Removal Order, Explained

Every picture clears the same way: the outer ring, then the next ring in, then the body, then the center. On a starfish that means outline first, body second, center last. On a castle it means battlements first, walls second, door and windows last.

If a color will not tap, it is covered. Do not fight it — clear the color on top of it and it becomes tappable on its own. This is the single most useful thing to remember on a confusing level.

Hard & Super Hard Levels

46 of the 545 published levels are marked Hard or Super Hard. They do not change the rule — they add colors and split the outer layer into more batches.

How difficulty changes the approach
DifficultyWhat changes
NormalFew colors, layers obvious. Clear outer ring, then body, then center.
HardMore colors nest inside each other. Trace the cover before tapping any buried tile.
Super HardOuter ring splits into many batches. Wait for each batch to drain before the next color unlocks.

Habits That Slow You Down

  • Tapping a buried color before its cover is gone. It will not move — read the layer on top first.
  • Mixing colors in one batch. Five slots of one color clears far faster than a rainbow.
  • Forgetting the 2x button. The outer ring is the slow part; speed up once it is gone.
  • Double-tapping until the queue stalls. Wait for the ants to walk a batch, then tap again.
  • Starting over instead of watching the key frame. Each level page lists the removal order frame by frame.

Colony Flow Strategy FAQ

What is the fastest way to clear a Colony Flow level?

Read the picture as layers, then clear the outermost color first in one batch. Let the ants carry it out, move to the next exposed color, and keep going. Switching colors mid-batch is what fills the queue and slows you down.

Why does the queue get stuck?

The queue holds five tiles. If you tap too many different colors before the ants walk a batch out, it fills and new taps are ignored. Tap one color, wait for the ants to move, then tap the next.

When should I use the 2x speed-up?

As soon as the outer layer is gone and the level drops to the inner colors. By then the picture is mostly clear and the remaining tiles carry fast — 2x saves most of the run time.

What makes Hard and Super Hard levels harder?

More colors and tighter stacks. The outer layer splits into several batches that must all clear before the next color is exposed, and colors nest inside each other more deeply. Read the stack carefully before tapping.

Do the video walkthroughs help more than reading?

Reading lets you pause on a single color order; the video shows the real tapping rhythm. Most people read the written order on the level they are stuck on, and watch a short walkthrough to match the queue timing.
